The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has denied media claims that its operatives broke into Justice Mary Odili’s Abuja house previously Reported on Friday 29th.Now on Friday afternoon, security officers reportedly invaded the Maitama house of the Supreme Court Judge in Abuja, according to News. In other news also on Validnewstoday, the Crime Commission had arrested a fraudste r in Ibadan.
The operatives were reported to have gone to the judge’s residence to carry out a search warrant as part of their probe into her husband, the former Rivers State Governor Peter Odili.
The security operatives were identified as part of a Joint Task Force, which included soldiers and officials from the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) and not the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.
The security personnel, who arrived with a search warrant, claimed to have received information about “criminal activity” at the premises.
The raid was reported by some sections of the media to have been carried out by EFCC operatives, but the anti-graft agency said in a statement by its spokesman, Wilson Uwujaren, that the raid reports by its operatives were false because it did not carry out any operation at the home of Justice Odili.
The statement reads,
The attention of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has been drawn to claims in a section of the media that operatives of the Commission today, October 29, 2021, stormed the Maitama, Abuja home of a Judge of the Supreme Court, Justice Mary Odili, purportedly to execute a search.
The Commission by this statement wishes to inform the public that the report is false as it did not carry out any operation at the home of Justice Odili.
If there was any such operation as claimed by the media, it was not carried out by the EFCC. The Commission enjoins the public to discountenance the report.
