Currently, requests have been made to the ministers for the release of about 12 of United Nations Staffs who have been arrested in Addis Ababa.
The United Nations said they were arrested due to raids targeting ethnic Tigrayans under a state of emergency, though the UN claims some of its staffs were arrested at their homes.
The Prime Minister of Ethiopia Abiy Ahmed’s government had declared a six-month state of emergency last week, which had increased fears that the known terrorist groups like as the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) and the Oromo Liberation Army (OLA) could march on the capital city.
Amnesty International and other human rights organizations have condemned the emergency powers, which allow anyone suspected of supporting “terrorist groups” to be searched and detained without a warrant.
They have been tensions between the prime Ministers administration and the UN administration have been spije throughout the war, which has killed thousands of people and forced hundreds of thousands into famine-like conditions, according to UN assessments.
This war between the Abiy Ahmed Government and UN have started as a result of the United Nations security Officials had to visit the detained TPLF members and Abiy told the UN to stop meddling in the country’s affairs.
