Short-distance debut at Albert Park
The Melbourne SuperSprint will be the first short-distance race for the new Gen3 cars that made their debut in Newcastle three weeks ago. The race will provide a different challenge as it is set in a fast and flowing parkland circuit, unlike the narrow streets in Newcastle. This will test the cars’ aero and engine parity, particularly for Ford Mustang and Chevrolet Camaro. The raceability of the tyres with these new cars and the pitstops will also be scrutinized.
Focus on tyre compounds and qualifying
In this round, there will be two different tyre compounds, the super soft and hard compound Dunlops, required in each race. Also, qualifying will be split between the two compounds, with the hard compound will be used to set the grids for Races 1 and 2 and vice versa for Races 3 and 4. There will be four sprint races in the event, one on each day from Thursday to Sunday.
Live coverage and schedules
Live TV coverage for the Melbourne SuperSprint will be split between Fox Sports and Network 10, while streaming services, such as Foxtel Go, Kayo, and 10Play, will also air the race. The SuperSprint’s grids for Races 1 and 2 are set by separate 15-minute qualifying sessions at 2:45 pm AEDT and 3:10 pm AEDT, respectively. Race 3 starts at 5:30 pm AEDT on Saturday, while the final race of the weekend will start at 10:25 am AEST on Sunday.
