James returns to starting lineup and scores 25 points
LeBron James put on an impressive performance on Wednesday night as he scored 25 points, grabbed seven rebounds and made four assists in 31 minutes during the Los Angeles Lakers’ 121-110 victory over the Chicago Bulls. This is only James’ second game back from a month-long injury hiatus due to a torn tendon, and he says he will be in top form soon. He scored 19 points in Sunday’s match against the Bulls, which ended with a 118-108 loss for the Lakers.
Lakers maintain hope for playoffs
Los Angeles is holding its own against other teams in the Western Conference in terms of playoff positioning, with Wednesday’s win bringing its current record to 38-38. The Lakers are looking to maintain their momentum throughout their five-game trip in their effort to make the playoffs this season. Nikola Vucevic scored 29 points, made 12 rebounds and had six assists in Wednesday’s game, while DeMar DeRozan scored 22 points and Coby White contributed with 17.
Los Angeles dominates in second half
In the second half of the game, Los Angeles pulled away from Chicago quickly, and Dennis Schröder’s three-point play scored them 97-79 with 8:22 left. Davis’ sole 3-point attempt lifted Los Angeles to a lead of 105-87 with 6:07 remaining. Austin Reaves’ 19 points contributed to the Lakers shooting 52% from the field. They led by as much as 17 in the first quarter but closed the first half on a 10-0 run.
Reaves delights in win over former teammate
Austin Reaves took some pleasure in winning the game against former teammate Patrick Beverley. After making a floater over Beverley with 2:50 left in the game, Reaves lowered his right hand and made a dismissive “too small” gesture. He said it was just competition and he respected Beverley.
Bulls missing key players
Closer to home, Bulls players Andre Drummond and Alex Caruso were out of the game due to personal reasons and left foot soreness, respectively. Without Drummond, Vucevic carried the team in the first quarter and scored their first 13 points. The Bulls are currently 10th in the Eastern Conference.
The Lakers take on Minnesota next
The Los Angeles Lakers will play against the Minnesota Timberwolves on Friday night, looking to raise their 0-2 record against them this season.
The Bulls head to Charlotte next
The Chicago Bulls will face the Charlotte Hornets on Friday night, aiming to maintain their 7-3 record against the team in their last 10 meetings.
