The tale that went viral after Jussie Smollett reported to Chicago police that he had been the victim of a hate crime, but now Smollett is facing allegations that he faked the whole thing.
He was charged with felony disorderly conduct after police and prosecutors claimed he lied to them about what occurred at the time.
Smollett told Chicago cops that he was out walking around 2 a.m. when he was approached by two men who recognized him from the TV show.
The two males began insulting him with racial and homophobic remarks. Both men attacked him, he said, then put a makeshift rope around his neck, shouting, “This is MAGA country.”
MAGA was a slogan meaning Make America Great Again, a reference to Donald Trump’s campaign slogan.
