Over half of Sri Lanka’s 25 districts have been affected and roads blocks as rain uproots trees and other properties along the state’s road. The worst-affected areas being in and around the island’s tea-growing Central Highlands. The floods in Sri Lanka and other areas of southern India have killed at least 9 people and 2 are missing as it rains for weeks in the countries.
Weather forecast shows that more floods are expected in the coming days.
The Local disaster management minister Ramachandran stated on Sunday that four people have died in “rain-related accidents” all across India. The minister alsl stated that the countries authorities had set up more than 150 relief camps to offer food and supplies to individuals who had been displaced from their homes because of the floods.
Five deaths and two disappearances were reported across Sri Lanka since the rains began at the end of October.
Pradeep Kodippili of the island’s disaster management agency told AFP on Monday
