Two police officers were killed by gunmen in Rivers State. The officers were killed at a checkpoint in Mile 2 Diobu, a highly populated neighborhood of Port Harcourt, the state capital, on Tuesday night.
Nnamdi Omoni, the Rivers State Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed the incident to Channels Television on Wednesday, adding that the hoodlums also took an AK-47 assault rifle belonging to one of the murdered cops.
He promised that the attack, which comes six months after a series of attacks on police formations in the state that killed at least eleven policemen, would not dampen their spirits.
Omoni, on the other hand, recommended inhabitants of the state to be more careful, particularly as the holiday season approaches and the crime rate is projected to rise.
He went on to say that the state’s Commissioner of Police, Eboka Friday, has ordered an inquiry into the incident in order to identify the perpetrators and learn their reason.
