During the attack, the gunmen engaged the Nigerian soldiers in a gunfight, with random gunshots. Apart from the five people kidnapped, two more people were said to have been hit by bullets and suffered injuries during the shootout with the army.
According to Validnewstoday, the victims were kidnapped last week Thursday at various sites in Ekiti state Ilasa and Ayebode regions by unknown gunmen.
Sunday Abutu, who is Ekiti state Police Public Relations Officer, told reporters on Monday 25th Oct that the five victims were discharged from hospital on Sunday being yesterday.
According to Abutu, the victims were liberated in the Ikole Ekiti area after police and other security forces rescued them.
The police spokesman noted that attempts are still being made to apprehend and prosecute the kidnappers in order to safeguard the public’s safety.
All of the kidnap victims, all five of them, have recovered their freedom,
he stated.
All the kidnap victims, five in all, have regained their freedom.They were released around Ikole Ekiti in the Ikole Local Government area following efforts that we (police and other agencies) put up combing the bush. The pressure was much, so the kidnappers had to let them go.
Efforts are still on to apprehend the kidnappers for the prosecution to ensure the safety of the people.
We advise that people should be security conscious and make sure that they report all suspected faces around their environment to the security agencies especially the police.”
