According to reports, the Lagos State Government has canceled its annual Fiesta due to COVID-19 fourth wave threats.
The authorities invoked the advice of health officials in order to halt all Yuletide events. Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu had announced the ‘Lagos Rocks‘ event from December 1 to 31 in early November.
However the Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture, warned against gatherings expected to be attended by people returning from nations affected by the fourth wave of the virus over the weekend.
Germany, Austria, and Greece, according to Akinbile-Yussuf, are staring on the restrictions to stop the virus from spreading. Nations like Austria has impose a full lockdown which could last 10-20 daysdue to recent increase on cases.
He pointed out that Germany is a European country with a large Nigerian population, many of whom travel home for the Christmas holidays.
The official urged residents to join forces with the government to avoid the awful experience of December 2020, when dozens of citizens died.
