Four suspects have been brought before a the Chief Magistrate Rita Oguguo in Port Harcourt Magistrate Court on a three-count charge of conspiracy, child trafficking, abduction. Although the court has been adjourned to 17th November.
The four; Victoria John-Barile, Jennifer Osuji, Ugochukwu Kere and Emmanuel Onyebuchi on 14 April 2020 were accused of kidnapping and trafficking an infact Precious Irechukwu in Rivers State. The suspects were accused of selling the child to Chinyere for the sum of 500,000 Naira.
The crime is punishable under Rivers State’s criminal code and the Federal Government’s Child Rights Act.
After the prosecution counsel objected to the defense attorney’s bail motion, the Chief Magistrate had ordered the suspects to be remanded at the penitentiary facility untill the hearing on November 17.
