Recent legislation in the US Military explained
According to 19th News, Representative, Chrissy Houlahan, Pennsylvania introduced an amendment to the 2022 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), which now requires women to register for the Selective Service System for the first time in U.S. history.
“Should our nation face a catastrophe so large we need to activate our selective service system, we must be ready to have all hands on deck. That includes women.”
– Houlahan explained in a statement.
The amendment did not make it into the version of the NDAA that the House eventually passed and as per 19th News, the new amendment has been criticized by many, but it continued to be negotiated in the Senate.
The Selective Service System law now refers specifically to “male persons” in stating who must register and be be drafted while women are required to register with Selective Service
The amendment still presist that Selective Service will continues to register only men, ages 18 through 25, though the official SSS website states.
