The Police Command in Niger has confirmed the demise of a Divisional Police Officer, SP Mukhtar Sabiu, and 4 different policemen in a gun duel with bandits in Gurara Native Authorities Space on Saturday.

“On 11/02/2023 at about 1100hrs, data was obtained that armed bandits had been sighted round Kwakuti-Dajigbe villages space of Lambata, in an try to assault some communities round Gurara Native Authorities Space.
“Mixed groups of police from Gawu-Babangida and Paiko Divisions, army, and vigilante members had been drafted to the scene.
“The hoodlums had been engaged in a gun duel and repelled with scores of them neutralised, whereas others escaped with bullet accidents.
“Regrettably, DPO Paiko Division, Superintendent of Police (SP) Mukhtar Sabiu and 4 different police personnel from each divisions misplaced their lives throughout the gun duel.”
The spokesman stated that the Commissioner of Police within the state, Mr Ogundele Ayodeji, later led a reinforcement group to the scene and recovered the our bodies of the deceased personnel.
Ayodeji condoled with the households of the affected personnel, whereas reassuring the general public that the police wouldn’t relent of their efforts to remove banditry and different types of criminality within the state.
