In Guayaquil prison, the inmates had a riot last week, making it the second fight in the prison this year. The inmates killed dozens of each other with guns, machete and explosives.
After the riot which was contained by the police, the heads of Ecuador’s armed forces and prisons had resigned today, November 15th. His resignation was accepted by President Guillermo Lasso.
So far this year, a total of 321 inmates have been killed from rioting in the overcrowded Guayaquil prison. Videos and images have shown the Guayaquil inmates fighting and setting fire on bodies of the inmates.
The Ecuador interior and defense ministers have had a meeting on how to enforce security at the prison so as to ascertain this ugly incident never happens again. A new head of the joint command, Marlo Brito have been appointed to replace the resigning Garzon.
Just 2 months’ ago, on another riot at the prison, a total of 119 inmates was killed.
