The Raiders set themselves up for failure on Sunday by walking all over the Chiefs logo prior to kickoff. The result was a 48-9 KC thrashing of the Raiders. Andy Reid was asked about Las Vegas’ pregame revelry after the game, and he downplayed its impact on his team, per Aaron Ladd.
Reid didn’t seem concerned about the Raiders’ pregame antics, knowing the Chiefs would retaliate on the field. And they responded, outscoring their division rivals and winning their sixth straight game.
NFL teams will eventually learn that giving their rivals bulletin board material ahead of a rivalry game backfires. The Raiders are the latest team to give their opponents free motivation before being humiliated.
While Reid denies it, it’s clear the Chiefs were out to get the Raiders, who also got carried away after an upset victory at Arrowhead Stadium in 2020. That the Chiefs had forgotten about their 2020 victory lap was proven wrong on Sunday afternoon when they won a statement game.
