Following a methane explosion at an ArcelorMittal mine in Kazakhstan on Sunday 7th November 2021, six workers died and two others were in medical serious condition, according to the company and Kazakhstan’s emergency ministry.
In the Central Asian country’s industrial Karaganda region, a sudden blast occurred at the Abaiskaya coal mine run by ArcelorMittal Temirtau, a Kazakh unit of the steel giant. This kind of Minning hazard although is more often in former Soviet countries.
Sixty-four miners were in the mine at the time of the tragedy, with 56 surviving.
The statement reads;
Six people died (and) two were injured.
ArcelorMittal said the accident had taken place due to an outburst of gas and coal.
The company said the two injured workers were in critical condition.
